may's life: an update
i finally learned how to perform dfs (direct fecal smear)!!! it's not as bad as I thought it would be... apparently, there are little variation to the sight and smell of shit, so there is nothing to be surprised about. just shit. no big deal about it.
prevalence of intestinal parasitosis in our chosen barangay was not high; could not have exceeded 40%. we saw entamoeba histolytica, giardia, trichuris... and i tell you seeing them was worth digging up shit.
at home, i do nothing but sit in front of the computer, just playing luxor (level 8 ako), zuma (sun god 4 lang naman sa gauntlet), text twist (wala akong maipapagyabang dito, mas magaling pa sa kin nanay ko), bookworm (word stalker na ko) and the sims (nakagawa na ako ng tatlong pamilya at nakapagtayo ng tatlong bahay). i have been doing this for 5 days now and i still show no signs of relenting and starting up with my readings for school. i still haven't written even one measly paragraph for our rrl in patho/pharma research. maybe i'll do it on wednesday. maybe not. i don't know. lakas ng hatak ng bookworm e.

Another product of procrastination
This just in - Donald Trump actually owns a blog! So I guess his business empire became too much of a bore for his vast intellect that he has to conquer the net as well. For a while there, I lost all interest to blog and concede to Mr. Trump's mighty writing prowess, but when I visited his blog, I found out that he only started blogging on May of 2005. I beat him by at least one year! I figured I have every right to keep my blog. Hah! Old man wanna write eh? I wonder how he was able to come up with that template. Oh yeah, he's a millionaire, he can pay people to do that for him. For all I know, he pays people to write his entries for him too, but from what I have read on his blog, I don't think that was the work of a ghostwriter.I'm sure glad I overcame that short episode of self-doubt and muster just enough confidence to write about the my current whereabouts.
Here goes...
Vacation used to spell R-E-L-A-X-A-T-I-O-N, but that was in the olden days, when the world (at least my perception of the world) was young and I answer only to the calls of gluttony. But those days have left the moment I received that piece of parchment that is supposed to signal the end of silly youth and the start of things that are mature - you know, the diploma. (Side note: I cannot remember where I kept my diploma. I still have not submitted a copy to plm's registrar. Darn documents always making my life complicated.)
Now, my vacation has turned into F-A-T-T-Y S-H-I-T (medical term for this is STEATORRHEA). Literally. F-A-TThis stands for our patho/pharma research. We have to fatten up rats and then treat them with either mangosteen or lipitor (atorvastatin, a Hmg-CoA reductase inhibitor). I have had previous experience with lab animals, but those belonged to the species Mus musculus. At their full adult size, they could still fit in the palm of my hand. What we plan to work with now are Sprague-Dawley rats, which can grow as big as a cat (well, a fairly big kitten at least). I am now in the process of looking up literature on the fastest method of fattening up rats without perusing a gavage. Inserting stuff into rats' mouth can be fun at times, but when you imagine doing it everyday, you have to admit that it can become a bit of a drag.
S-H-I-TThis is for our FCM research. Heavy stuff man, sobra... We really have to dig shit man. As in, tae. Tae talaga. Fecal examination using direct fecal smear. I am betting a million bucks (which is the amount I normally have in my wallet) that I am going to lose a lot of weight this sem break.

itsh aliiiiiiivve!!!!!
Yep, i'm still alive, despite the lack of post for the whole month of september. well, guess you already had guessed it by the tons of forwarded messages i've been sending. it just feels nice to greet my blog with that line. it signals the start, much like the sound of revving up an engine.hmm... with the aftermath of the typhoon milenyo, you could have thought that there are a million things to write about. and yes, there are...there's the fact that we went for almost 3 days without electricity. i love it. i made a ball out of melted wax from the candles we used at night. then again, between the ball of wax and the endless nights in front of the tv, i would definitely choose the latter.there's the lack of water which comes with the power outtage. i discovered that it was possible to bathe with only a pail that is 75% full of water. had to made do without conditioner though.there's the necessary trip to the mall just so we could charge the batteries of our cellphones. heaven forbid we miss on the latest in forwarded message technology. nah... i need the cellphone so that i could receive that exquisite official announcement from our dean that classes would be suspended. my cp was quite useless for forwarding because i ran out of credits.there's the cancellation of classes, which had been most fortunate for students, particularly those scheduled to have exams... like... me, for example. and to think I already have my chance to study, yet blew it by sleeping those days off...there's the rehearsal for our role-playing for medical ethics for monday (which is tomorrow). plm was closed last saturday, the selected date of our rehearsal, so we had to content ourselves in the walls of intramuros. quite fun, actually, practicing amidst ruins. i am going to play the part of a mep (which, i have learned from our very able director/scriptwriter/producer/up manila's magna cum laude means medical emergency personnel) and an actress who stars in a teleserye where she gets to wear a very skimpy red outfit and fly around and save people (yes, it is an adaptation of angel locsin, who i have lambasted in previous entries). those are two separate characters, not two personas merged into one. they are quite small roles so they can be managed by one person. as of now, i still don't know my lines. i still don't know what to wear for both of my characters. and to think that i had to change outfits in a relatively short period of time. oh well, i choose not to worry myself over a 1-unit course.there's my visit to the beauty salon. i had my eyebrows shaped into an orderly fashion. i don't generally pay attention to my looks, but this is special because i'm playing angel locsin. angel locsin does not have bushy eyebrows! i also got myself my very first hotoil treatment. big mistake. i did not see any difference with my hair. that's 100 bucks down the drain.yep, there are so much to write about.but i'm not in the mood.so i have to put it off until my fingers know what to wirte about and how to write them properly.
