Highlighting is a religion
*another post born out of boredomIt used to be that highlighters are useful in marking important words and phrases for easy retrieval or recall, yet with the amount of information we have to store in our chosen line of profession, I think a black marker would be more useful -- in marking out unnecessary details, such as prepositions and conjunctions. Yep, a black marker oughta do the trick.One problem though: I would never, for the life of me, give up my highlighters. My brain is already primed up to absorb only those information which are marked in yellow green highlight. No, this is not neurosis. It is just that my faith in highlighting has gotten so strong over the years that it has become easier for me to store and remember highlighted text. Highlighting has revolutionized the way I have studied. It has helped me pass all of my exams . It is quite obvious that highlighting has changed my life forever. In conclusion, I submit that highlighting is not merely a habit nor a compulsion of a psychoneurotic mind. It is far more than that.HIGHLIGHTING IS A RELIGION.*tip for the novice highlighter freaks: Use Faber-Castell markers. The effect is simply marvelous. The highlighted text will automatically jump out of the page and into your wandering mind.

Notes about the movie Da Vinci Code
I have read the book and have watched the movie. Yes, I have been prey to the Da Vinci Code hype. What can I say? I'm only human, subject to curiosity and herd mentality. Someday, I will find it in myself to forgive this foolish display of contibuting to Brown's already inflated fame and fat wallet. Someday, but not very soon. Just... someday.Now about the movie; of course the book is way better and more exciting than the movie. However, I don't think watching it will cause too much disappointment. On the other hand, I never kept my hopes up in the first place. I think it would be safe to say that you should only watch it only if you have time and money to spare. Sure it's no investment on your intellect, but neither would you be going down the evolutionary ladder by watching it.

fresh start
It is only recently that I have realized that I am entering a profession that can boast of a long history behind it. This gives a perfectly new perspective. Whereas before my only reason for going into medicine and giving it my best shot was the sense of service (who am I kidding? there was just no other option for me.), now I can gain inspiration from my fathers in the medical profession...
I sure hope I don't mess this up.

Birthday post
no progress report this year. just something that i wish i had realized earlier:
People react negatively towards things they cannot control. It's instinct. It is the rule of nature. I don't have to feel bad when people don't like me even when I have done nothing to earn their dislike. They just can't handle me.

World's craziest videos --> mindless crap
There is nothing more stupid than watching complete strangers embarassing themselves in front of the camera. It's not just stupid, it's also downright tacky. Embarassing video combined with puns and cowboy music. Yep, perfect recipe for tacky. The videos being showcased can be classified into the following categories: a. animals behaving wildlyb. people being hit by random objects in the head or crotch (the latter generating more laughs)c. people falling or sliding and landing on their bottoms
All of the videos are just variations of those three categories. Note that two of them include people screwing up and hurting themselves. Apparently, that is supposed to be funny. I am no fan of taking things seriously, but this is taking it too far. I cannot understand why these are shown on prime time television, and a back-to-back issue at that. This really contributes to the reduction of the collective iq.
Yeah, that may partly explain the insensitive intellectual disaster that are the Filipino viewers. Not an amusing thing, I tell you.

Reasons for May's stagnant blog
100 Years of Solitude - This book really is the one. I could survive boredom with only this one just book in a desert island. I do admit that I had a hard time understanding it, putting it into context because it deals with magic realism, but that is what makes it more fascinating. I have always believed that a really good book will give you different meanings no matter how many times you have read it. It only depends on you present state of mind. Well, I dare say this book has it all. It documents the pace of human civilization -- the development of society, organized religion, politics, and how each would affect people in the long run. It also taught me a great lesson: too much solitude is destructive. I once thought that solitude is a great way of shielding myself from the evils of the world. It turns out that it not only accomplishes that, solitude also deprives me of priceless lessons which could only be earned by immersing oneself in human relations. I'm saving up to buy my own copy (I only borrowed this from a friend) unless someone is kind enough to buy me one for my birthday... *pa-cute beautiful eyes*Secret Bible Week at National Geographic - I have always had this deep-rooted although vestigial fascination for conspiracies in history and religion. This event could have been perfect, if not for the bit about Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code. Too much publicity for a book with a mediocre story line. I do love the documentary about the rivals of Jesus Christ. Undoubtedly irked many Christians out there...Bloghopping - Since I cannot make it to blog history with the work I am doing, I might as well get ideas from other's blogs. Suggestions: www.waiterrant.net => I didn't know serving food is so much exciting. http://oneredpaperclip.blogspot.com => I wish I could be this succesful.==nugget of wisdom== THESE WILL DESTROY US:
Politics without principle;
Business without morality;
Wealth without work;
Knowledge without character;
Science without humanity;
Pleasure without conscience;
Worship without sacrifice.
